Hello and Welcome to the Community Connections blog!
We have just started a new partnership with the city of Sunnyvale. Every other friday we go to the Sunnyvale Community Services site and help with a variety of tasks. We work in the donation closet, help with gifts, organize food and help with whatever we can.
The Director has been so happy with our work-she has emailed several times to compliment our participants. Sunnyvale is a new area for us and we are excited to be having new opportunities. Everyone seems to be having a terrific time helping out.
Hopefully in the future we will be working at other sites in Sunnyvale.
We have also started a new project at Lytton Gardens Senior Center. Every monday a group of our participants goes to Lytton Gardens and hosts a Bingo game for the residents.
"Our residents absolutely love our Bingo game-day with your participants," notes volunteer coordinator Bethany Dihn. "They bring so much joy to our residents."
We might even film this project for our next television program!

What a gift!
Hello And Welcome to the Community Connections blog!
We have very exciting news. One of our terrific volunteers, Diana Alchimisti and her husband Jerry have made a very generous donation to our Adult Day Program. The Alchimistis along with their family business, Advantage Converters donated $500 and several supplies to the program.
It is a wonderful gift and we are so very grateful. We are delighted that Diana is working on tuesdays and thursdays as a volunteer in the program. She is a very talented person and we are so grateful to have her help.
We presented Advantage Converters with a Make My Day gift of flowers, cookies and a card and they were really happy. The entire company took part in the celebration.
We could not do what we do without our incredible volunteers. Thank you Diana, Jerry and all of Advantage Converters. You are our angels!

Our work continues...
Hello Everyone and welcome to the Community Connections blog!
We are working really hard this winter....we just finished putting labels on 500 pamphlets for El Camino Hospital. It was a very big assignment and our participants did a great job. Soon we will start on our second project for the hospital.
At the BOK Horse Ranch and NCEFT in Woodside, we continue to work with the horses, clean the barns, horse rinks and do general ranch work. It's a lot of fun but hard work!
At the Boys and Girls Club in east Palo Alto we are responsible for keeping all of the after school classrooms clean. We have started working there twice a week now!
At the beginning of February we returned to the Community School of Music and Art to take Marimba and Art classes. We learn so much there-it's our fifth year of classes.
This spring promisese to be very busy as well!

A partnership with El Camino Hospital
Hello and Welcome to the Community Connections blog!
We have great news! As of February 1 we are starting a terrific new partnership with El Camino Hospital. We have been working hard to get this volunteer work site going and now it is official.
El Camino staff members came to tour our agency and they already have several projects lined up for our Community Connections participants. We will be helping them with office work, mailings and several other projects. It will be a great way for our participants to learn about the hospital.
Tomi Ryba, the CEO of El Camino Hospital personally helped set up this partnership. "We really respect the work that Abilities United does and we want to be a part of it," she said.
Our Community Connections program continues to grow every day and we are reaching out to communities beyond our local area. It is a very exciting time for us.

In February we are going to be starting an educational series. We will be taking art and marimba classes at the Community school of Music and Art and ceramics class at the College of Adaptive Arts.Everyone learns so much in these classes and we are excited to start classes. We are also looking into several other educational opportunities.

Welcome to the New Year!
Happy New Year and welcome to the Community Connections blog!
We are starting the New Year with a lot of work out in the community. Our new partnerships, The Palo Alto Unified School District's Science Garden, The Boys and Girls Club and Deer Hollow Farm have all requested that we increase our volunteer hours. It seems they are really impressed with our work!
Next week a Facebook Executive is coming to give us a training on how to use Facebook. It will be really interesting to learn about how our participants can use the social media site to increase their interest in the community.
In early December we filmed an episode of our television program Abilities United Presents: Community Connections with Senator Joe Simitian. I will post a television schedule as soon as it is available.

A Senator, an author and an artist!
Hello Everyone and welcome to the Community Connections blog!
What a terrific day we have had. This afternoon we taped our eighth episode of our television program, Abilities United Presents: Community Connections. State Senator Joe Simitian was our first guest and he was wonderful! The Senator talked about the importance of volunteerism and how our participants are making a big impact on our community.
Claire Bohannon, an ILS participant was also a featured guest. Claire is a published author and she talked about the books she has written. She spoke very eloquently about how her Autism has really been a gift. Claire is a very talented young lady and it was terrific to showcase her work.
Terry Eagle, another ILS participant was our third guest. Terry crafts beautiful walking sticks from branches and he showed his work on camera. The walking sticks are incredible works of art and he hopes to help others with his work.
Needless to say, it was an incredible program. Our Abilities United participants have so much talent. It is time for the world to share in their gifts!
